Do you ever feel blue?? I do! January seems to always bring them on for me. I don't know if it is because December is always so exciting and fun, or because we are surrounded by family and friends we find so dear, or if it seems so bleak with all the snow (or lack thereof), or because of the inversion (in Utah), or because you don't see the sun for days at a time. January even has to have 31 days in it, doesn't it?About the 8 th I found myself asking my husband if it was about over yet. (I'm not depressed and I'm not saying what I did will solve depression. I'm not encouraging going out and spending money that you don't have either!). This is just what I personally needed to beat these doldrums. I decided to redecorate my house a little bit (it was much needed). We have been wanting a new dining room table for some time now since ours is 26 years old. We headed out for our adventure and found quickly we couldn't decide on the same set at all. When we first got married and then eventually built our house we agreed on everything but not now. My tastes have changed immensely.
We finally found this beauty and agreed instantly!
This is our old set. We put in on KSL.com and sold it to a nice young couple for $150. They were so excited to get it.

When we got the new table all set up I told my husband that now we had changed the entire look of the room my china cabinet needed work on it so it would match the table and chairs. I told him I would like to paint it black and he couldn't believe I wanted to change it so drastically! You see, Scott had built this for me in about 1980-81 and was so proud of it. I love it too and was not open to selling it and getting a new one. He convinced me to try staining it first to a darker color so, I proceeded to spend 2 days staining it dark walnut hoping it would match the table top. It seemed to match really well until the sun came out and the cabinet had this horrible shade of yellow to it. I hated it! I spent the next 2 days trying to get Scott to agree to letting me paint it and even went and bought a redder stain and the black paint just in case. Well the red stain looked worse so I proceeded to prime the cabinet and texted my hubby at work and told him "well here goes I am offically painting the cabinet", He text back "Black! Huh? Good luck." Keep in mind I have never done any thing like this before! Drum roll.............................!

Everything looks FANTASTIC. You are so brave. I have wanted to finish painting my table for a few months and just need to get up the guts to do it. I love the black!
Wow, you have been busy! I totally agree. I hate January. There is nothing exciting about it one bit. I love what you have done. It looks great. Love black! So if February leaves you feeling blue still and you have a hankering for more home projects, feel free to mosey on this way. I've got plenty for you to do. :)
You did such a great job, I LOVE everything!!
It looks GORGEOUS!!!! I love it! I'm jealous. Do you think Scott could make me a cabinet? Ha! Can't wait to see everything!

Especially since we went to Florida, I'm having some serious wintertime dissatisfaction. I like your kind of therapy! :)
