When it rains it pours!!

Well, we have had excitement around our neck of the woods, again!! Last Friday started out just fine, Scott, Ben and I took in a movie called "The Tourist". Good flick! But, maybe that is because I am a big Johnny Depp fan, Angelina Jolie? Not so much!!

When we got home we got a call from our son (Josh) telling us he was on the way to the hospital with extreme pain in his abdomen and he was throwing up. He kept us posted through the whole ordeal since he lives an hour south of us so we didn't go down. Well the stupid hospital (they shall not be named here) drew blood but didn't test it and just hydrated him because he was dehydrated. Then they sent him home saying he had the stomach flu. The next morning he text me and asked if we would come get him. We told him we had a Christmas breakfast at the church at 9 that we had to bring a casserole too then we would eat a little food, then come get him. When we got there his pain was really bad all the way home. We got him to his bed for just about an hour then he came out and laid on the floor writhing in pain. We decided then to take him to urgent care, they drew blood AND tested it! His white blood count was extremely high which indicates appendicitis, they sent us to the hospital where he had to drink over a 2 hour period a drink that puts a contrast in his abdomen for a CT scan. It totally confirmed that they needed to remove his appendix as soon as possible. Scott and Ben gave him a blessing then into the surgery they went. When the Doctor came out he said his appendix was very acute but didn't rupture. He also told us that after drinking so much fluid they noticed that his stomach was swollen so they decided to put a catheter in. As they were inserting the cath they ran into some scar tissue from probably an injury he sustained and the Urologist had to be called in. He still has the catheter in to try to open the tube but, he will most likely have to have another surgery to remove the scar tissue. That would not have been found if not for the appendicitis and could have damaged his bladder and kidneys. So we are grateful!

He spent the night at the hospital and returned home on Sunday afternoon to recuperate fully. By the way! Just before he went into surgery we had a conversation that went sort of like this:

Josh: "I might have someone come to the house tomorrow to visit me". Us: "Ok, that's fine. Who is it?" Josh: "A girl , my girlfriend." Us: "Oh! Is that who drove you to the hospital last night?" Josh: "Yes, I was at her apartment when I started getting sick and throwing up". Us: "NICE".

Well, she came to visit and guess what? We liked her!!! It is time since the last break up was in August. We will always have a special place in our hearts for Steph, the girl who supported Josh through basic training, tech school and other trials as well. Sometimes just having your family isn't enough. Good luck Josh with your recovery, we love you!

Oh my goodness! What a crazy time for you. I hope Josh recuperates quickly. I can't believe the first hospital didn't complete his lab work, that's horrible he suffered needlessly for all that time after going there!!

Oh boy, I'm sorry. Having spent a little too much time at the hospital lately with sick/injured children, I feel your pain.

I'm glad Josh is feeling better and on the mend. If I can get my act together, maybe we can drop a little treatski off to him. Yeah on the girlfriend! He is so nice. I'm glad he found someone he really cares about.
