Finally I can talk about it! Without crying too much!

My son Josh, is in the Air Force Reserves. He is in Afghanistan. He has been there since the 8th of August. He is on the flight line loading bombs on F 16's. He works 12 hours shifts 6 days a week. He shares a tent with 14 other air men.

Quite a difference since just a few short years ago when he was serving the Lord on a mission for our church. I missed him and worried about him on his mission. I miss him more now and worry about him 10 times more now!!

People love to tell you horror stories, send you videos about how people hear about the death of their sons or daughters, or tell you that they are sure you worry about your son more now because he can be killed (like maybe I hadn't thought of that, Lol!), and send emails etc. spreading hate for our fellowmen from other countries. What is with that?

I have found great comfort in turning to the words of our
Prophets . I love this quote from the talk given by President Gordon B. Hinckley:
Let us pray for those who are called upon to bear arms by their respective governments and plead for the protection of heaven upon them that they may return to their loved ones in safety.

To our brothers and sisters in harm’s way, we say that we pray for you. We pray that the Lord will watch over you and preserve you from injury and that you may return home and pick up your lives again. We know that you are not in that land of blowing sand and brutal heat because you enjoy the games of war. The strength of your commitment is measured by your willingness to give your very lives for that in which you believe.

We know that some have died, and others may yet die in this hot and deadly contest. We can do all in our power to comfort and bless those who lose loved ones. May those who mourn be comforted with that comfort which comes alone from Christ the Redeemer. It was He who said to His beloved disciples:

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me."

From True to the Faith, I love this quote:
"If Latter-day Saints are called upon to go into battle, they can look to the example of Captain Moroni, the great military leader in the Book of Mormon. Although he was a mighty warrior, he “did not delight in bloodshed” (Alma 48:11). He was “firm in the faith of Christ,” and his only reason for fighting was to “defend his people, his rights, and his country, and his religion” (Alma 48:13). If Latter-day Saints must go to war, they should go in a spirit of truth and righteousness, with a desire to do good. They should go with love in their hearts for all God’s children, including those on the opposing side. Then, if they are required to shed another’s blood, their action will not be counted as a sin."

I know that it is all out of my control but it isn't out of my Saviors control. He is watching over all not just my son. I put my trust in Him, come what may!!!

I wish to thank all those that pray for our military and all those who give me encouragement daily. To those who have lost loved ones I pray for you too. May you find the peace only our Savior and Redeemer can bring to you.

Hey Diane,

Thanks for your blog. It was really good. I'm praying for Josh. I'm sure he's doing great over there. Also, when Roger gets back I will ask him how to get in touch with the church over there. They have a district president in Afghanistan. Roger actually got called to be a group leader at his base via email. He actually was the only member, but one other guy wanted to investigate the church so Roger taught him the discussions. He ended up getting baptized. Yeah! Then Roger moved to a new place where he was the only Mormon. I'll keep in touch and tell me if you need anything.

Know that others are thinking of him and of you. I just thought of him tonight as I was driving home from therapy with Jackson. I passed a car like his and wondered, "How is Josh doing?" I'm grateful for his service, and for you guys.

This is such a nice post. We really appreciate all our men and women who serve our country. I think sometimes people forget that our freedom does not come free. You are all in our prayers.
